It gets lonesome as fuck without your teammates. Sometimes you will chill with your squadmates, but rarely will you talk to people outside your squad. If your 3 team mates are out doing shit, youre gonna be alone in your room for however many days off you have.To cope with said lonesomeness and boredom, you will gravitate towards sleeping. It also never fails when the nyquil and sleep aids fail to knock you out.You will drink whenevet you can to stop the hell inside. I mean wtf are you gonna do? You make E2 pay, no girlfriend, no car, no nothing.If you arent old enough to drink, youre so fucked lol.Youre gonna start smoking and dipping. When I was in basic i made a promise that i wouldnt smoke again. I didnt even last a day at reception.Smokings are infinitely worse than basic. Imagine the biggest in thd field smoking you got in basic, but magnify it by duration and intensity by 50%.Sleeping in the cold. I was used to it because i was homeless before i joined. I wasnt sucking, but you will be tho.Dont ever be late, not even once. Oh dear god please dont. I beg you.Dont ever call someone the wrong rank. Oh my god.You better stand at parade rest when talking to a specialist, and address them as such or youre gonna have a bad time.If you dont have your papers, youre gonna have a bad time.The shots. They never stop. Everywhere else is just as expensive as its civilian counterpart.38. There are literally signs for tank crossings.39. Tanks are actually quieter than I expected them to be, but you can easily hear. Them 500 yards out. Its weird. Theyre quiet when theyre moving next to you but super loud when theyre farther away.40. You wont hear a Stryker. IFV until its about 50-100 yarda away. Its fucking crazy.41. Turning on a Bradley IFV feels exactly like this:42. Military Police are always happy as fuck.43. Gate Guard is way better than ammo guard.44. Night Vision sucks ass. It either droops too low below you your eye or you cant see anyone more than 25 yards away. Like they begin to blend in.45. NCOs are funny as fuck and teach us shit all the time.46. Its true. Just point the laser on the target and hip fire.62. Do not assist someone at night. My battle buddy couldnt see targets but I guided him good enough to qualify while helping his belt feed. At one point he said fuck it and sprayed everywhere violently moving his weapon left to right up and down, it was epic. I got smoked mercilessly though, even though he said he asked for my help.63. Shooting is fun as fuck. Its fun trying to get as many bullets into the tombstone as possible, and i will be damned if i didnt say that the SAW is way more accurate than the M4. The sound of it and the vibration is awesome.64. Getting tangled in vines at night is the most frustrating thing ever.65. I shoot better without earpro for some reason. Like way better.66. Getting tear gassed is not that bad. It only gets bad when you step outside, but heres something crazy. While everyone else was coughing and snotting like crazy, I was just standing there looking around and shrugged my shoulders. When we walked out though i couldnt open my eyes but ove, it wasnt that bad.67. Smoke em if you got em, push if you dont.68. Wall to wall counseling under FM 22-102 exists in basic. Ive seent it happen to people. Just not by drills. Well ok one time but it was during our last ruck, the 12 miler.69. Working guard on weekends. Ewww.70. 24 hr CQ is the shit because youre away from the company for 24 hours. However, you dont sleep during this time to my knowledge buuut you get to skip work doing CQ and you get a comp day the next day. Ive never gotten it tho.71. Depression reigns supreme in my unit. I can name 4 people in my squad that I know for sure, and 3 in our fireteam. I know other people in other platoons that have the depression as well. Like seriously bad depression to the point where they openly talk about suicide and how bad they feel. But if we talk about it and say how they feelu2026.. Dishonorable Discharge.72. The standards are fucking insane. Its easy to meet them when you know them all though. But still, holy fuck.73. Fuck fuck games never stop. Never.74. Not Rome and its Legions, nor Germany and its Whermacht had the logistics or power that we have now.As is obvious, our military had killed civilians. Accident happen, period. That is the cost of war. Even the way we treat detainees in war is tame compared to most armies now and in the past. Search, silence, segregate, safeguard, speed to the rear.Surely, if we as a collective are so evil as you imply, then our regulations would be much more barbaric. What is more barbaric is the terrorist who uses civilians as human shields. Sometimes, a pilot cannot see that.Also, i can assure you that if i ever saw a soldier massacring civvies, i would shoot him on the spot. Anyone would. Whu do I want a med degree, preferably EMT training and a VA degree?Im a soldier and she is studying medicine because we both want to help people, serve on our own way, and honestly just be helpful servants to society.But of course, me and the fam have to get shit on by a troll that happens to share strong empathic desires and urges to help people.I take great pride and sleep well at night knowing that my job is more miserable than yours, more demanding, and more everything.
